The Linguaphone academic advisory committee

Linguaphone Academic Advisory CommitteeIn 1967, Linguaphone formalised its relationship with the academic world by appointing an Academic Advisory Committee (AAC).  The AAC oversees the development of all Linguaphone courses in order to maintain the highest standards of excellence.

Today, the Committee consists of distinguished scholars in the field of languages, linguistics and phonetics.


Professor Randolph Quirk

Professor Randolph Quirk (the Lord Quirk of Bloomsbury, FBA) is the author of more than 20 books including a Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language.  He has been awarded doctorates by universities in 13 countries and is a fellow of the Royal Belgian Academy of Sciences, the Royal Swedish Academy, the Finnish Academy of Sciences, the Academia Europaea and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Professor Nigel B. R. Reeves

A distinguished linguist, Professor Nigel Reeves OBE is Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Professor of German at Aston University in Birmingham. He is a vice president of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, a member of the Department of Education's Steering Group for the Languages Ladder Project and on the Executive Committee of the University Council for Modern Languages.  He is also a Trustee of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Commercial Education Trust.

Professor Albert Sonnenfeld

Following a distinguished career as Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures and as a department chair at the Universities of Princeton and Southern California in the USA, Professor Albert Sonnenfeld now consults on language instruction to professional organisations and is a translator from Italian and French.  He has authored and edited over 15 books and more than 100 articles and has been decorated three times by the French Republic, most recently as Officier dans l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres.

Christine Wilding

Christine Wilding has a distinguished record in the field of language teaching and education.  She is passionate about helping all to enjoy languages and cultures, especially the independent learner.  Formerly Director of the Association for Language Learning (ALL) and Director of the British Institute of Florence, Christine now lives in France.

Professor J. C. Wells

Professor of Phonetics at the University College of London (UCL), Professor J. C. Wells works on the phonetics of many different languages but is best known for his work on English.  He is the author of the Longman Pronunciation Dictionary and has taught English phonetics to both native speakers and students of English as a Foreign Language (EFL).  His latest book, English Intonation: An Introduction will be published in 2006.

Professor Ian T. M. Gow

Ian Gow is a professor of Asian Business and Vice President (Asia) of the University of Nottingham. He is currently Provost and CEO of The University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China. Professor Gow is also a leading scholar in the field of Japanese studies.
